As somebody who is a Chemist and have worked with Mercury I can tell you the 
cleaning up of spilled Mercury is not that easy. Zinc-dust or Sulfur, that is 
the question, but the mess is the same.
Besides, it is heavy and toxic. So not a good choise. :D
