Have you thought of joining a professional society?

For instance the IEEE or (again in the UK) the British Computer Society.
then apply for Chartered Engineer status.



The reason I am suggesting this is that quite often in the UK a job requires
a degree OR EQUIVALENT 
In Germany things are of course different.
