I would suggest that you request entire nodes
through the batch scheduler. So if you are using
Torque (PBS) for instance and wanted to run an
80 CPU job on dual socket quad core nodes you
would request:
#PBS -l nodes=10:ppn=8
The scheduler would then only allocate you nodes
that were not used by other people.
