The folks on this list may not be representative of "cluster
operators" as a whole. There's probably some significant
over-representation of academic clusters for which the cluster admin
may be expected to participate in the "science".
If you wanted a cluster admin job in a trading firm running risk
models, I suspect that having a PhD might not be as important. Having
a finance background *might* be useful, but might not.
Having a background in formal software engineering (as differing from
Computer Science) might be valuable at some places.
