was even possible at the time of RHL9, but try to run:
ethtool -k ethX
and if any of the checksums are turned on, you can turn them off with:
ethtool -K ethX rx off
ethtool -K ethX tx off
(note: ethtool might not be installed by default, check the install
media if there was a package with this name)
