Greetings,
I'm developing a parallel code on our 32 node Pentium II Beowulf cluster at
Bilkent Univ. Recently I've stumbled into a problem due to our lack of
knowledge about the 3COM 3900 36 port 100Base-TX switch with gigabit uplink.
I need to know the architecture and topology of the interconnection network
within the switch in order to implement the optimal parallel algorithms in
the code. Unfortunately, the documents I've seen is geared towards "managers"
and system administrators and does not seem to contain the technical
specifications that I was looking for. Since we have paid thousands of
dollars for this particular piece of hardware, I believe that this simple
information should be available.
The information I'm looking for is:
* Is this a static or dynamic network? And what is its architecture (is it
an omega n/w?)
* If it's a static network what is its topology and connectivity? (is it a
clique, is it a hypercube, is it a 2 1/2 D mesh?)
I'd be very glad for any advice on this matter. I'm looking forward to your
comments.
Regards,
