Don't run out. Systems get unhappy without room in /tmp.
I think the reason that many folks create e.g. /xtmp is that it is "just
like /tmp" but the system doesn't know about it and rely on it. So you
can fill or trash and /xtmp partition and your system or key services
don't crash.
