Sorry, I'm on holiday and only by chance I could get Internet access today 
(although I promised to stay away from computers for 2 weeks :-(). It's 
not the first report that some older version worked and the new one 
doesn't, so we need to find out what the differences are; I seem to 
remember that some older version of SuSE Linux used the Scyld driver 
instead of the kernel one, so maybe this is the explanation of the 
different behaviour. I won't be able to look into it for at least 2 weeks, 
sorry...
