We have not tried the second interface yet, we are only using the first
(eth0)
interface at this time. We will try the second interface and make sure
the
same symptoms can be duplicated only using it by itself.

Here is the output from vortex-diag:

vortex-diag.c:v2.05 5/15/2001 Donald Becker (becker@scyld.com)

Index #1: Found a 3c982 Dual Port server NIC adapter at 0x1400.

The word-wide EEPROM checksum is 0x2cff.
Saved EEPROM settings of a 3Com Vortex/Boomerang:
3Com Node Address 00:E0:81:04:CB:3D (used as a unique ID only).
OEM Station address 00:E0:81:04:CB:3D (used as the ethernet address).
 Manufacture date (MM/DD/YYYY) 0/0/2000, division , product .
Options: negotiated duplex, link beat required.
Vortex format checksum is incorrect (0026 vs. 10f1).
Cyclone format checksum is incorrect (0xbe vs. 0x63).
Hurricane format checksum is correct (0x63 vs. 0x63).

I had to run col -b against the output to clean out some control chars
right after division and product so apparently it failed to read those
chars correctly.

I also ran this against several identical machines and diffed things and
the only difference in the above output was the expected mac addresses,
and some bytes in the eeprom that match the mac address.
