Problem with 3Com driver/card

I hope this mailing list is still alive or someone on it knows where I
might get help :)

I have been having a persistant problem with a 3com595 Card.

Most of the time the card functions normally at 100Mbit and very
occationally logs Transmit errors which do not seem to be harmful in any
way.

eth0: Transmit error, Tx status register 90.

But around 30-40 days uptime, the card starts to log the following erros:

eth0: transmit timed out, tx_status 00 status e000

It logs the "transmit timed out" errors with increasing frequency slowly
bringing performace to a stand still until the card appears to go offline
totally rendering the machine unreachable.

I tried taking the card down and backup (ifconfig eth0 down) which did
bring it back online, but performance was still so bad I had to reboot.

The card type is:
eth0: 3Com 3c595 Vortex 100baseTx

Operating system:
Linux Slackware Kernel 2.2.13

It is possible that the machine was under a Denial of Service attack at
the time it began reporting these errors. (large fragmented UDP packets)

Is this a problem with the driver, the hardware, or the OS itself? I
really have no clue where to start with this.

Any help would be great.
