Hi,

I had the same problem, too. 

My ISP said it was a problem of malicious packets in the net, and put a firewall in place to block 
these. I can't confirm that it was that, because at the same time, just to be on the sure side, I 
also upgraded the network drivers 3c59x to version 0.99 L (from H), and the problems have gone
now!
