I also noticed the ethernet timeout occured during the name resolving time.
During that time I usually have the log analysis (analog) software running
to do the analysis. Lots of IP to name conversion is happening.

I remember last time I did try to upgrade the kernel to 2.1.x. The
networking performance is noticable improved. I saw this when I run
netatalk to do the AppleTalk routing. I think the networking code in 2.1.x
kernel must have changed a lot. Too bad I didn't try to run the machine for
long using 2.1.x kernel. So I don't know if ethernet timeout problem still
exist there. Does this explain upgrading kernel to 2.1.x can solve the
problem?
