Further to my previous post, when I physically remove the card and then
re-insert it, /var/log/messges reports ...
Jan 15 00:16:56 localhost kernel: cs: cb_alloc(bus 5): vendor 0x1317, device
0x1985
Jan 15 00:16:56 localhost kernel: PCI: Enabling device 05:00.0 (0000 ->
0003)
Jan 15 00:16:56 localhost cardmgr[698]: initializing socket 1
Jan 15 00:16:56 localhost cardmgr[698]: unsupported card in socket 1
Jan 15 00:16:56 localhost /etc/hotplug/pci.agent: ... no modules for PCI
slot 05:00.0
Jan 15 00:16:56 localhost cardmgr[698]:   product info: "N"
Jan 15 00:16:56 localhost cardmgr[698]:   PCI id: 0x1317, 0x1985

I find that pci-scan and tulip get loaded. Packets are transmitted but none
are received.

"Trying to free non-existent resource" is also seen in /var/log/messages (see
previous post).  That sounds ominous.
