[tulip] Network traffic freezes system

Hi,

Since upgrading from my ancient 2.0 system to a new Slackware 8 install
running 2.4 I have a lockup problem.

Large amounts of network traffic coming into my Linux box through a Linksys
LNE100TX causes the system to lock up solid. Only the 'big red button'
works at this point. I can recreate this at will by either copying a large
file to the Linux box or by running my backup server (on Linux) to back up
another machine in the network. It appears to be caused by the amount/speed
of data as I can send small files, internet traffic, print files, etc. OK.

I can transmit as much data as I want without problems.

I'm running a 2.4.10 kernel with the tulip driver that came with the source:

Linux Tulip driver version 0.9.15-pre6 (July 2, 2001)

tulip-diag.c:v2.06 1/8/2001 Donald Becker (becker@scyld.com)
http://www.scyld.com/diag/index.html
Index #1: Found a Lite-On PNIC-II adapter at 0xec00.
Port selection is N-Way autonegotiation, half-duplex.
Transmit started, Receive started, half-duplex.
The Rx process state is 'Waiting for packets'.
The Tx process state is 'Idle'.
  The transmit threshold is 72.
The NWay status register is 41e1d0cc.
The current PNIC-II MAC address is 00:a0:cc:37:4e:aa (a000a000 37ccaa4e).
The current PNIC-II WOL address is 00:a0:cc:37:4e:aa.
Internal autonegotiation state is 'Negotiation complete'.

Firstly, is this the correct driver to be using. If not, what should I try.
Are any of the ones on this site (scyld) usable on a 2.4 kernel as all the
notes imply that support is only up to 2.2 kernels.

If they do work on 2.4, what's the differnce between these and the Tulip
project on Sourceforge.

Next. How can I go about tracking/debugging this.

Cheers.
Eddie

BTW. How do I subscribe to this list. Using the form at
http://www.scyld.com/mailman/listinfo/tulip gives me a "tulip: No such
list."
