Try forcing it to half-duplex:

mii-diag -F 100base-HD eth[X]

(I think that is the right cmd line...you kind of have to read the
source code for the documentation if that's not it.. :P)

Look at /proc/dev and see if there are any error counters being
pegged...

Mr Becker:  Would you accept patches to mii-diag that printed
out more useful and verbose usage information?

Jeff Garzik is working on getting this to work in full-duplex
mode, but I'm not sure how close he is...
