[tulip] Problem with insmod tulip -- Device or resource busy

I hope this posting is appropriately addressed. I am running Linux =
2.2.12-20 and am attempting to configure a LAN using Linksys' Combo =
PCMIA Ethernet card (EC2T). I have configured meticulously, per =
instructions in HOW-TOs and Linux texts. My NIC fails to be recognized =
during boot. Moreover, attempts to load tulip fail.
The following will give a good sense of my current status:
>modprobe -c
alias eth0 tulip
>modprobe eth0

Before I go about installing a new version of tulip, do the above =
results suggest I may have a problem unrelated to the currency of the =
tulip driver. For example, I previously attempted to configure my =
machine with an entirely different Linksys NIC, which I tried to =
associate with tulip; could that have caused confusion in the driver's =
ability to recognize my current NIC.
Having read through innumerable mailing list entries on topic, I would =
much appreciate any guidance.
