Greetings!

I wish to use the tulip driver with the Intel Anypoint 1Mbps Home =
Phoneline NIC,
which is based on the Intel 21145 interface chip. From viewing some of =
the
driver source code (at the Linux Cross Reference web site), tulip has =
some level
of recognition for this device.

My environment is the Linux Router Project software =
(www.linuxrouter.org), Eiger
release, based on the linux 2.2.16-1 kernel. I obtained a copy of the =
tulip driver
from this release (obtained from =
http://lrp.steinkuehler.net/kernel/2.2.16-1/modules/net/tulip.o) and =
attempted to configure a PC-based router using the Intel NIC card as my =
interface to my home network.

On booting, I viewed the following messages:

tulip.c : V0.91g-ppc 7/16/99 becker@cesdis.gsfc.nasa.gov
eth0: Intel DS21145 tulip rev 17 at 0xfc80, 00:90:29:49:e7:07 IRQ11
eth0: EEPROM default media type Autosense
eth0: Index #0 - Media AUI (#2) described by a 21142 Serial PHY (2) =
block

A few moments later, after booting was completed, I attempted to do a =
simple ping from=20
the router to my desktop PC. Ping failed due to no return =
acknowledgements; shortly
after, the console provides the following repeated message:

eth0: Tx hung, 10 vs. 7.
eth0: Transmit timed out, status e0260000, CSR12 00000006, resetting...

It appears that the driver does recognize the Intel chip, and accurately =
read the board's
MAC address, but there's some sort of issue with the setting of the =
actual interface,=20
which should be 1Mbps HPNA instead of AUI.

Does anyone on this list have any experience with using the tulip driver =
with the=20
Intel Anypoint 1Mbps NIC card? Any suggestions on how or whether the =
card can
be configured to come up with its HPNA interface active? Is this an =
EEPROM issue,
or can the EEPROM be overridden with an argument added to the module =
name
when loading?

Thanks in advance for any help that can be given.

Regards,
Mark Darby
