The task to buy a NIC that has a 10Base-F interface and is known to be 
supported by Linux seems to be very complicated.

I drew the information that the card uses an Intel chip from the Linux 
Ethernet-HOWTO (which is rather outdated):

Allied Telesyn phone support couldn't tell me which chip is used on the 
card. They said the AT2500 uses a Realtek chip, so probably the AT2450FX 
does too. Not very convincing. 

The problem is that there aren't that many NICs which have a Fibre 
interface at all, which are offered by computer stores around here.
