Hi,

I just recognized that Iīm not allone with my problem of
"Transmit timed out:".
Because I solved the problem my way, I think itīs still
worth to report.

Formerly I used SuSe Linux 6.2 with:
- Graphic controller on      IRQ 9
  Bus  1, device   0, function  0: 
    VGA compatible controller: ATI Mach64 GB (rev 92).
    I/O at 0xe800 [0xe801].
- SCSI Controller on         IRQ 10
  Bus  0, device  15, function  0:
    SCSI storage controller: Adaptec AIC-7861 (rev 3).
    I/O at 0xf800 [0xf801].
- Intel Pro100B NIC on       IRQ 11
   Bus 0 device 13 function 0
     Ethernet controller: Intel 82557 (rev 5).
     I/O at fcc0 [fcc1].
- PS/2 Mouse on              IRQ 12 

The system is on a 100MBit Network.

"ifconfig" reported for eth0 lots of "overrun" and some "errors".
The transmission stopped several times (according to the log)
with "Transmission timed out: status 0050 0000 at 
xxxxxxxx/yyyyyyyy command 000c 0000" followed by
"Trying to restart the transmitter", which actually worked because
I havenīt lost the connection.

The solution:
I simply (and only) changed the NIC from Intel to SK and
rebooted the system.

Now I use SuSe Linux 6.2 with:
- Graphic controller on      IRQ 9
  Bus  1, device   0, function  0: 
    VGA compatible controller: ATI Mach64 GB (rev 92).
    I/O at 0xe800 [0xe801].
- SCSI Controller on         IRQ 10
  Bus  0, device  15, function  0:
    SCSI storage controller: Adaptec AIC-7861 (rev 3).
    I/O at 0xf800 [0xf801].
- SK 100MBit NIC on          IRQ 11
  Bus 0 device 13 function 0
    Ethernet controller: DEC DC21140 (rev 34).
    I/O at 0xfc00 [0xfc01].
- PS/2 Mouse on              IRQ 12

Because of the new NIC with the DEC chip the system now uses the
tulip driver and my problems and errors are solved.
