I didn't use them in any job or educational experience prior to $JOB-0.</div><div><br></div><div>On one hand, I already have to use Slack for multiple other efforts and communities, so I might already be in the Slack client and it's easy to Ctrl+3 for the SigHPC slack workspace. On the other, I certainly understand where mail is easier to work with, assuming you have a good mail client and/or your first inclination for searching for answers is with a web search engine. I haven't interacted with mailing lists directly enough to have developed a preference for or against the workflow. It certainly doesn't help that I haven't adopted the use of a proper e-mail client. </div><div><br></div><div>I do think it is harder to be, without thinking of better terms at this moment, "unprofessional" on a public mailing list. I mean "unprofessional" insofar as it is hard to justify making jokes about company X doing something foolish or otherwise not being on my very best behavior. <p>Me, too, and it makes me sad. :( This mailing list has been super
helpful to me over the years, and it's sad to see that no one
really comments or asks questions here anymore. It seems all the
youngsters prefer Reddit, Slack, etc. - anything but e-mail - to
communicate these days. I still prefer mailing lists, but I'm
slowly coming to the realization that might make me a dinosaur.
Never thought I'd see that day. <br>

I really miss the small, tight-knit community that used to be
here. <br>
