While you're listing alternatives, the web 2.0 space has a bunch of parallel FSes which don't seem to get much notice in HPC. An example would be HDFS, the Hadoop Distributed FS. It's basically PVFS, but with data redundancy and metadata redundancy actually implemented. It lacks a POSIX interface, though. A similar situation exists in the node management space, where existing solutions like CFengine were pretty much ignored by HPC people. -- greg
