Just for development, there are no difference to choose AMD or NVidia. CUDA is a bit better than Brook+/CAL in programming model, only TLP needs to be considered. And some applications or workloads are suitable for CUDA while some suitable for Brook+/CAL. Buying cheap gaming cards costs little. If for CUDA, GTX280 costing 300 Euro is OK, for AMD, a 4870X2 costing 400 Euro is a top one.
