G'day all Just a little observation I'd like to share :) Obviously looking to avoid a repeat of the recent teeth pulling over architectures... and my appologies to those at the bleeding edge... It's interesting to look at the current prices on previous generation (gen-1) desktop CPUs. I'm sure everyone knows that a good "bang for buck" price point exists on the past generation CPUs. Lovely for "personal" Beowulfs. My cluster deliberately runs dual P3's - they're cheap! :) Now that dual core's are coming out, the current AMD MP's and Xeons are about to get kicked down a notch. So I've started to sniff out potential replacements for my faithfull P3's. What I've found is that it looks like my upgrade will be to Xeons <gasp> despite the cooling and performance concerns... The AMD CPUs/mobos are holding their price too well! However if anyone on the list is looking to offload their obsolete single core Opterons, please let me know =) Cheers Steve This message was sent through MyMail http://www.mymail.com.au
