just to reiterate my comments about AMD vs Intel: athlon64/3000+ happens to be passing through my office right now. great little box (MSI uatx, ati chipset, antec minuet case). anyway, it idles at 57W and when compiling the kernel is 75-80W. I'm pretty sure I've got clock-modulation turned off. I expect Pentium-M would behave similarly, though probably not perform as well on compute/memory-intensive stuff. but this is noticably different from any Intel chip in the P4 family. regards, mark hahn.
