Redhat 7.2
glibc-2.2.4-19.3
kernel is 2.4.17

Ive spent a good amount of time trying all mount options that I could think 
of, but none apear make a difference. right now its mounted:
-t ext3 -o ro /dev/sdc1 /data2 on the RO system, and
-t ext3 -o rw /dev/sdc1 /data2 on the RW system
