When running Scyld, The Chiba City cluster at Argonne DR> National Lab operates exactly this way. Ah, really? When I asked about this a while ago, I was informed that it would require nontrivial hacking. Unfortunately my cluster already exists that way and I have no further funding on that project to buy a Scyld support contract so I let it drop. If the situation has improved then I'll have to have another look at Scyld. I guess the important issue was dealing with the mapper. It has to go on one of the compute nodes, since the front end isn't on the Myrinet. - J<
