(long-time listener, first-time caller) so i managed to get the network-side of a prototype "guarded" beowulf up with redhat 7.0 using the two onboard ethernet controllers on a 1U tyan 2510 running a couple piii 866's -- this newbie is still amazed (virtual no prior sysadm experience). you (and the linux community in general) generate a bunch of useful(!) documentation. anyway, the hole i've dug now has me stumped (apparently i can't take a hint -- see below ;). i am trying to install a netgear gigabit card (ga620t) in the tyan's 64-bit/66MHz pci slot and use it in place of one of the onboard eepro controllers going into the netgear fs518t 10/100/1000 switch (16+2). lspci says: 01:02.0 Ethernet controller: Netgear: Unknown device 630a (rev 01), ifconfig doesn't list it, netcfg talks about 'Delaying eth2 initialization' and 'insmod acenic' exclaims, Using /lib/modules/2.2.16-22smp/net/acenic.o /lib/modules/2.2.16-22smp/net/acenic.o: init_module: Device or resource busy Hint: insmod errors can be caused by incorrect module parameters, including invalid IO or IRQ parameters as is probably obvious from the above, i have no idea what i'm talking about; but i am not above groveling for answers -- or at least re-direction ... thanks, -- bil <http://abweb.larc.nasa.gov/~kleb/>
